‘Deer - Track Delay EP’ out now on Ekwal

I’m very happy to announce that my new EP, ‘Track Delay’ is now available as free download on the new Ekwal Netlabel. Head on over there for the download! Here’s the text info about it:

http://www.ekwal.co.uk

Ekwal is a new independent netlabel dedicated to making exploratory, minimal techno with an emphasis on live performance. Ekwal’s artists approach music from very different directions, but they share a common desire to produce deep, subtle, sounds aimed directly at the dancefloor. Ekwal is currently planning releases by artists from around europe, including releases from ‘deer’, ‘rob park’, ‘red shift’ and ‘dug’.

Releases on Ekwal:

Ekwal’s first release is a collection of 4 tracks by ‘Deer’ aka Martin Hirsch, featuring a blend of fieldrecordings and experiments in techno and electro. While the first three tracks explore various aspects of the four-on-the-floor paradigm, the last cut, ‘Stationary’, features an excerpt from a living room livejam with Source Records founder ‘Move D’. The ‘Track Delay EP’ was mastered by John McCaig at PanicStudios, Seattle. Deer has previously released as “random noise productions” on Neo Ouija and Hippocamp. His website can be found at http://www.regicide.org.

STFU Helsinki Aftermath…

I got back from Helsinki yesterday and if I could I’d be on the next plane back there. Great people, great music, great city, I had a fantastic weekend despite a raging cold. The two nights at the Dubrovnik club were packed (people were turned away at the door at some point) and all the gigs went down very well, whether they were experimental listening music like Special Brew’s improv set or the full on dance Smörgåsbord of Millicent or Robin Judge. I’m also very glad I had an additional day to recover and see some sights after the gigs, will definitely head back up to Finland next year. I uploaded a small selection of pictures to the Photography section and will add more links here as people put their photos online.

Packing up the goods.

I’m about to fly out to Helsinki for a long weekend of STFU goodness! I have a few days for sightseeing before and after the festival, which should be great - It’s fun to hang out with the STFU crew and to listen to music all day long, but when travelling to new places it’s nice to be able to actually see some of them. It’ll be great to meet up with the regular STFU artists, meet the new ones and listen to what everyone’s been up to music-wise the past months. It’s the first time I’m using the Monome 40h as a controller for playing live, but the rehearsals have been fun (if somewhat erratic at times), so I’m definitely looking forward to the gig - hopefully I can get a few heads nodding/feets stomping/booties shaking/etc. I’ll follow up with some audiovisual documentation of the gig and the whole festival later.. that is, if I don’t screw up hitting the record button or something similarily trivial.

There’s a good chance that my new EP, “Track Delay” will be out as first release on the Ekwal netlabel by the time I get back. You should check it out, it’s fine. I also posted two more tracks in the music section.

There’s some more great news on the horizon, not quite ready for primetime yet though.
